With 10,667 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 infections in India on Tuesday rose to 3.43 lakh, including 9,900 deaths and 1.8 lakh recoveries. Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain tested negative for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, a day after he was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in the national capital after experiencing high grade fever and a sudden drop in oxygen levels.
In other news, a traffic cop in Bengaluru succumbed to the virus Tuesday, marking the first death in Karnataka’s police force. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami Monday declared an “intense lockdown” in three districts, including Chennai, for 12 days from June 19 to 30. His Delhi counterpart
Arvind Kejriwal, however, said the government had no plans to impose lockdown in the national capital. While the dominance of Maharashtra in the country-wide spread of the Covid-19 disease has weakened in the last few weeks, that of Tamil Nadu and Delhi has increased.
Meanwhile, in a bid to ramp up testing, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved a new on-site diagnostic kit for containment zones and healthcare settings, which can produce rapid results without needing a laboratory and cost much less.
